The Pastoral Ministry and Missions department of Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, will host a Dietrich Bonhoeffer Conference Feb. 3-4.
The conference, which coincides with the 100th anniversary of the German theologian’s birthday, is open to scholars, pastors, students, laypeople, and anyone interested in Bonhoeffer’s life and legacy.
“To this day, Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s theology raises controversy,” says a seminary press release. “In the challenging context of the Third Reich, Bonhoeffer clearly demonstrated that theological thought and personal life are connected. Much of what he said and wrote, especially in the area of ethics and church/state issues, is still of great value for the church today.”
Making presentations at the conference will be Dr. Charles Ford, a professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at St. Louis University, who will speak on the topic “Bonhoeffer, Luther, and the German Resistance” and will provide commentary following a showing of the film, “Bonhoeffer: Agent of Grace”; and Dr. Uwe Siemon-Netto, director of the Concordia Seminary (St. Louis) Institute on Lay Vocation, who will address “Bonhoeffer, a Bold Sinner.”
