Mequon to host parish nurse, health conference

Concordia University Wisconsin, Mequon, is sponsoring this fall an educational conference for parish nurses and congregational health workers.

The four-day intensive conference, “The Concept and Practice of Parish Nursing and Congregational Health,” will be held on four consecutive Wednesdays — Sept. 21 and 28 and Oct. 5 and 12 — on the Mequon campus.

The conference is designed to introduce nurses and others to the concept of parish nursing and share strategies for starting a congregational health ministry.

The course covers more than a dozen topics, including the history and philosophy of parish nursing, the role of the congregation in wholistic health, the theology of health and healing in congregational health, legal and ethical aspects of parish nursing, spiritual assessment and caregiving, setting up a parish-nurse practice and office, financial issues, grief and loss, and exercise ministries.

Registration is $95 per day, plus a $135 charge for materials, or $515 for the entire program.  Lodging at area motels and meals are extra.
