`Newsweek` lauds LWR for relief efforts

In a brief item headlined “Rating Tsunami Relief,” the Jan. 17 issue of Newsweek magazine lauds Lutheran World Relief (LWR), Baltimore, for its A+ grade as a charity.

The magazine lists several U.S.-based relief agencies that have received grades, from A+ to F, from the American Institute of Philanthropy.

LWR has a “great track record,” according to the magazine, and “now promises to give 100 percent of tsunami relief to victims.”  The inter-Lutheran agency spends 90 percent of its income on program services, and keeps fund-raising costs low, according to the report.  Also receiving an A+ rating is the American Red Cross.
