Registration is now open for Wheat Ridge Ministries’ National Symposium on Health and Hope, set for Oct. 13-15 in Denver.
With the theme of “Living Well,” the event is being planned as a highlight of the organization’s 100th anniversary this year, according to Wheat Ridge President Richard Bimler.
Wheat Ridge was in the process of sending an information/registration packet to those on its mailing lists as this Reporter was being prepared. That material also is available on the Wheat Ridge Web site at www.wheatridge.org.
“Our goal is to gather more than 1,000 health professionals and medical, church, government, corporate, and congregational leaders for major presentations, discussions, celebrations, interest areas, and other events to focus on current and emerging health issues for the 21st century,” Bimler said. He added that the symposium’s purpose is “to equip and energize participants to respond to the Good News of the healing Christ by celebrating the gift of living well in Christ and by actively and creatively using personal and institutional resources to bring health and hope to all of God’s people.”
Scheduled major speakers include:
- Dr. Ellen L. Idler, professor and chair of the Department of Sociology at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, and a member of the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy, and Aging Research;
- Dr. Leslie David Braxton, a Baptist pastor from Seattle, who is “an avid promoter of holistic ministry and community empowerment,” according to the Wheat Ridge Web site;
- Dr. Mitri Raheb, pastor of Christmas Lutheran Church and general director of the International Center in Bethlehem; and
- Dr. Martin E. Marty, the Fairfax M. Cone Distinguished Service Professor of Modern Christianity at the Divinity School of the University of Chicago.
Those registering for the symposium may do so online, by fax, or by mail, after downloading the registration form from the Wheat Ridge Web site.
Registration is $295 per participant by Sept. 1, and $325 after that date. For groups of three or more from the same congregation, school or other entity, the fee is $250 per person by Sept. 1 and $280 afterward. One-day registration also is available.
Housing arrangements may be made with the Denver Marriott City Center, site of the symposium, at a special room rate of $105 per day for symposium participants who reserve rooms by Sept. 12.
