“From Cowboys to City Slickers: Breaking Stereotypes!” (1 Cor. 9:22-23) is the theme for this year’s Beautiful Feet mission conference for college students. Registration is now open for the conference, to be held Nov. 3-6 at Concordia University at Austin in Austin, Texas.
The four-day event will offer workshops on topics ranging from inner-city ministries to overseas missions, a presentation on Hispanic ministries in Austin, excursions to local mission sites, Bible studies, worship, and fellowship activities. In addition, an exhibit area will feature representatives of some two dozen Lutheran mission societies, who will be available to answer questions and explain how students can volunteer to serve with their ministries.
Some 200 young adults are expected to attend the conference, according to planners.
“Our goal is to give college students the opportunity to not only learn what they can do [in missions] after graduation, but also to know what they can do right now — where they are and around the world,” said conference Chairperson Kayla Cowan, a senior in Austin’s director of Christian education (DCE) program.
Conference Vice Chairperson Brandy Ramm, also a senior in Austin’s DCE program, said the Beautiful Feet event is useful for “building relationships and networking with people who are also interested in ministry and missions.”
Beautiful Feet conferences began in 1997 as a way to get college students interested and involved in mission work. Organized and led by LCMS college students at different sites each year, the conferences feature missionaries who talk about their work and visits to nearby mission sites. The name “Beautiful Feet” is taken from Is. 52:7 — “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring Good News.”
Registration for this year’s conference is $90 by Sept. 23, or $95 by Oct. 15, and includes three nights lodging and meals.
