Seminaries to host fall `Lutherhostels`

The Synod’s two seminaries each are hosting “Lutherhostel” events this fall.

“Joy in the Journey” is the theme for LutherHostel 2005 at Concordia Seminary, to be held Oct. 1-4 on the St. Louis campus.  The seminary hosts the “educational event for adults age 55 and older” each year.

Rev. Thomas R. Zehnder, former missionary to Japan and president emeritus of the Synod’s Florida-Georgia District, will be the main presenter for the event.  Dr. Donald Miesner, a guest professor at the seminary, will lead the Bible study.

This year’s LutherHostel includes an Octoberfest dinner, presentations by seminary faculty and staff, class visits, student-led devotions, and visits to Concordia Historical Institute, KFUO Radio, and the seminary bookstore.  Tours of Lutheran sites such as the LCMS International Center and Lutheran Hour Ministries also will be offered, along with tours of St. Louis sites, including Forest Park and Cathedral Basilica.

Registration is $150; lodging and meals are extra.

Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, will host “Lutherhostel 2005: Missions and Christian Care” Oct. 9-14.  The event is designed for “Christians of all ages” who want to learn how the church’s mission reaches out with the Gospel and Christian care to those with spiritual and physical needs.

Members of the seminary faculty will focus on theological aspects, and leaders of Lutheran service organizations will address human care.  Presenters include seminary President Dean O. Wenthe; Dr. David Geske, president and CEO of Bethesda Lutheran Homes and Services, Inc.; and Stan Veit, executive director of Lutheran Social Services of Indiana.

Registration is $150; lodging and meals are extra.
