A 53-foot semi-trailer filled with more than $60,000 in chainsaws, generators, wheelbarrows, diapers, and non-perishable foods arrived at Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge, La., on Sunday (Sept. 4), sent by St. Louis-based LCMS World Relief/Human Care in response to needs in the devastated Gulf Coast areas.
The St. Louis-based ministry sent a second relief shipment with more than $50,000 worth of equipment and supplies to the Gulf Coast on Sept. 6.
Volunteers from Glendale Lutheran Church, in the St. Louis suburb of Glendale, Mo., helped gather supplies for both shipments over the weekend. SuperVan Service Company donated the use of the trailer. Company President Walter M. Brauer Sr. and Vice President of Strategic 
St. Louis trucker Craig Hansen volunteered to drive both shipments, which are being made in partnership with Orphan Grain Train, an LCMS social ministry organization. Bolin Services provided local transportation.
LCMS World Relief/Human Care Executive Director Rev. Matthew Harrison and Rev. Carlos Hernandez, director of Districts and Congregations, were in the Gulf Coast Sept. 2-5 doing early needs assessments and helping to coordinate relief efforts.
