The 13th annual Arizona Lutherhostel sponsored by the Association for Lutheran Older Adults (ALOA) will be held March 3-9, 2007, at the Redemptorist Renewal Center, also known as “Picture Rocks,” in Tucson, Ariz.
Lutherhostel provides an opportunity for older adults to experience intellectual, social, and spiritual growth in a relaxed setting.
Daily presentations and Bible study will be led by Dr. Thomas Zehnder, former president of the LCMS Florida-Georgia District and missionary to Japan. Zehnder has retired from full-time ministry but continues to serve as a member of several boards, including Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, LCMS World Mission, Wheat Ridge Ministries, and Luther Institute.
Leading devotions and the choir will be Carol McKean, an accomplished organist and choir director. She will be assisted by her husband, Dr. Joel McKean, president of REAL, Inc., a nonprofit corporation that works to remove land mines from 80 countries.
Other highlights include presentations on the Hopi people; “Bad Guys and Good Guys in Territorial Arizona”; and school life in 1870s Tucson. Participants also will have opportunities to hike, learn the Japanese art of origami, and tour the Tucson Rodeo Museum.
Registration is $435 per person, double occupancy, and includes meals, lodging, and all costs for the week. Single occupancy is $470, and the rate for commuters is $275.
