Rev. Thomas Prachar was re-elected to his third term as president of Lutheran Church–Canada’s (LCC) Central District at the district’s April 24-26 convention in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Prachar, 51, was first elected in 2000.
Delegates also elected as regional vice presidents:
- Rev. Michael Keith of Fort Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan, Regina Region;
- Rev. Rudy Pastucha, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Saskatoon Region;
- Rev. David Haberstock, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Thunder Bay Region;
- Rev. James Scholz, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Winnipeg Region; and
- Rev. Raymond Maher, Melville, Saskatchewan, Yorkton Region.
Theme of the convention was “Proclaiming His Faithfulness … As a Light to All.”
Recognizing the growing number of Lutheran immigrants coming into the district, delegates adopted a resolution asking the district’s mission and congregational services director to become involved in assessing needs and identifying resources to support these believers as they grow in their Christian faith.
Another resolution adopted by the convention asks the district to appoint a task force to consider establishing a lay leadership program to train immigrants as congregation leaders.
During the convention, delegates took part in a strategic planning exercise. Lay and clergy delegates met separately to discuss major internal and external challenges to the district. Delegates from each group chose three top priorities and presented ideas for implementing them. The district’s board of directors plans to use this information in the new triennium.
