The Deaf Lutheran Mission Society, based in Janesville, Wis., is sponsoring a free workshop for deaf people July 31-Aug. 3 at Christ Lutheran Church in Phoenix.
The four-day workshop, which will be conducted in American Sign Language, includes an opening devotion, fellowship, and two classes:
- “Basic Faith” is designed for those who have questions about Christianity and want to know more about God, Jesus, faith, and what it means.
- “Understanding Old and New Testament Stories” is for people who know the basics of Christianity and want to learn more about the Bible.
Leading the workshop will be Rev. Jerold Munz, pastor of Peace Deaf Lutheran Church, Indianapolis, and two missionaries serving the deaf in the Synod’s South Wisconsin District — Revs. William Palmer and John Reinke.
The workshop classes are designed “by and for deaf people,” according to Reinke. “We want deaf people to know Jesus and His Gospel,” he said. “We want deaf people to be able to share the story of Jesus with their deaf friends and family.”
The Deaf Lutheran Mission Society is providing workshop materials and meals at no charge. Participants are responsible for their own travel and hotel costs.
