The Center for U.S. Missions in Irvine, Calif., is offering “Basic Mission Planter Training” July 24-28 at Concordia University, Irvine.
The weeklong session prepares “church planters” in the basics of a mission plant, affirms them in their role as “planters,” connects them to “coaches,” and helps them create a “mission initiation plan.” The training, formerly called “Mission Planters Institute,” is offered twice a year, in February and July. The Winter 2007 session will be held in New Braunfels, Texas, north of San Antonio.
Topics covered include theology of church planting, financing the new start, developing a mission plan, developing a mission strategy, raising up and developing leadership, time management, and evangelism. Sessions also include Bible study and worship.
Each participant must have approval from his district mission executive to register for the training, and spouses also are encouraged to attend.
The Center for U.S. Missions provides research and training for mission work among unevangelized people in the United States, in partnership with LCMS World Mission, Concordia University-Irvine, and LCMS North America mission executives. In addition, 15 LCMS districts pay annual dues as “district partners,” enabling members of their congregations to attend training sessions at reduced cost.
Registration for “Basic Mission Planter Training” is $200 for each person from a “partner district,” or $1,200 each for those from non-partner districts. Deadline is June 26.
