More than 23,000 laypeople, pastors, and other church leaders participated in some 280 workshops this fall to introduce Lutheran Service Book (LSB), the Synod’s new hymnal.
“The total number of registrants exceeded our wildest expectations,” said Dr. Paul Grime, executive director of the LCMS Commission on Worship, publisher of the hymnal along with Concordia Publishing House.
Grime indicated that the commission hoped for at least 11,000 workshop participants, “but the interest in LSB was clearly much greater.”
“Perhaps the greatest benefit of the workshops is the fact that now there are over 23,000 copies of Lutheran Service Book in people’s homes,” Grime told Reporter. “LSB provides some very helpful devotional resources for individuals and families — just in time for Advent.”
At the workshops, participants devoted three hours to reviewing and singing through portions of the hymnal. In addition, each registrant received a copy of Lutheran Service Book and a copy of “A Guide for Introducing Lutheran Service Book.”
Grime described the guide as “a helpful 100-page collection of resources prepared by the commission to assist pastors and congregations in introducing and using LSB.”
