The Center for U.S. Missions in Irvine, Calif., is offering “Basic Mission Planter Training” July 23-27 at Concordia University, Irvine.
The five-day training session is designed to help mission/church planters “move their mission plants in the right direction” by developing a strategic mission plan and learning leadership principles, how to put together a “launch team,” how to develop identity in the community, and how to get people into the new church.
The training is open only to those who have been interviewed and approved by their LCMS district mission executive. Spouses are strongly encouraged to attend the training sessions as well.
Topics covered include:
- Bible study and worship.
- Theology of church planting.
- Developing a mission plan.
- Developing a mission strategy.
- Raising up and developing leadership.
- Developing an outreach plan.
- Personal spiritual growth and development.
- Values clarification.
- Developing identity in the community.
- Models of church planting.
- Preparing for the first public worship.
A grant from LCMS World Mission is being used to subsidize the training for the first 16 mission planters from Center for U.S. Missions “partner districts.” For these participants, registration is $200 if received by June 1; $300 if received June 2 to July 2; and $400 after July 2.
Registration for those from non-partner districts — and for those who register after the first 16 registrations are received — is $1,800 per person.
The registration fee covers all materials, meals, and on-campus lodging for the five-day session.
