“The Lutheran Hour” float was once again the only religious float in the Tournament of Roses Parade Jan. 1 in Pasadena, Calif. This is the 58th year the float, hosted by the Southern California District of the International Lutheran Laymen’s League, was part of the parade.
This year’s float theme was “Joy to the World, the Lord Has Come.” Riding the Lutheran Hour float was Larry Lumpe, executive director of Lutheran Hour Ministries.
The float is decorated each year by a group of more than 4,000 volunteers, ranging in age from 13 to 85 and known as “Petal Pushers,” who travel to Pasadena from all over the United States and Canada. Last year’s Lutheran Hour float received an award as the parade’s most beautiful float up to 35 feet in length.
