Official Notice: 63rd Regular Convention, The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod

The 63rd Regular Convention of The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod will convene at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas, on Saturday, July 14, 2007.  Floor committee open hearings (beginning at 8:30 a.m.) and an all-delegate orientation session (1:30-3:00 p.m.) will precede a convention worship celebration at 4:00 p.m.  A Sunday morning prayer service at 8:00 a.m. will immediately precede the first business session of the convention on July 15.

The 2007 Convention Workbook containing the reports and overtures to be considered by the convention was mailed to all convention delegates, alternate delegates, and church workers at the end of April.  Comments to floor committees regarding any of the content of the Convention Workbook may be submitted to the Office of the Secretary prior to the committees’ May 18-21 initial meetings.  Personal appearances before the committees at these initial meetings will only be by request of a floor committee chairman.

The first issue of Today’s Business containing the proposed resolutions drafted by the floor committees during their initial meetings will be mailed to all congregations, delegates, and official representatives to the convention in early June.  Delegates are encouraged to learn the sentiments of those whom they will represent at the convention by arranging circuit meetings after June 15 to discuss the proposed resolutions.

Reactions to the resolutions should be addressed directly to the chairmen of the floor committees at least one week prior to the convention for consideration at July 13 committee meetings.  Opportunity to address the floor committees personally will also be provided at the opening hearings scheduled for July 14.  Changes made to the proposed resolutions will be reported in subsequent daily issues of Today’s Business distributed prior to each morning session of the convention.
