This winter and spring, the Synod’s two seminaries are sponsoring open-house events for men and women — from high-school-age to adult — who are interested in pursuing church vocations.
Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, has planned:
- “Taste of the Sem,” Jan. 19-21, an annual event designed to give high-school-age young men an opportunity to experience seminary life
- “Contemplate,” March 13-15, for men interested in becoming pastors and women interested in becoming deaconesses.
The event includes Bible study, prayer, and discussions with faculty about the office of the ministry. This year’s theme is “The Call of Christ.”
Visiting teens accompany seminary students to their resident field education congregations on Sunday, and to classes and a chapel service on Monday. The event also includes a campus tour and dinner with faculty.
Registration is $45, but all meals and on-campus lodging are provided free of charge. Travel assistance is available.
Participants have opportunities to visit with seminary students and faculty; worship with the seminary community; attend workshops on pastoral and deaconess ministries, spirituality, relocation, and student services; talk with admissions counselors; and hear about extracurricular groups.
There is no registration fee for “Contemplate,” and all meals and lodging are free. Guests will be welcomed to campus by President Dale A. Meyer and seminary faculty at a reception and dinner.
Transportation between the seminary and the St. Louis airport and bus and train stations will be provided.

Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind., is sponsoring three visitation events over the next few months. All are free, with the seminary providing all meals, lodging, and shuttle service.

- Christ Academy College, Feb. 15-17, designed to bring college-age men together to study theology and establish a community of men who are interested in becoming pastors.
- the “Phoebe Academy College Retreat,” new this year, a women’s version of the seminary’s Christ Academy College. The retreat, Feb. 15-17, is designed to give college-age women information about deaco
- the “Spring Invitational Campus Visit,” March 26-29, open to men who are interested in becoming pastors and women who are interested in becoming deaconesses.
The event includes class visits, theological lectures, fellowship activities, and on- and off-campus worship services.
