Exploring ministry with young adults in Synod congregations, a Jan. 4-6 symposium in Houston sponsored by LCMS Youth Ministry is being designed for 
Youth Ministry 2008, or “YM2008” for short, the symposium with the theme of “Emergent? From What?,” will feature:
- Keynoter Dan Kimball, a nationally known speaker and author of books titled The Emergent Church and They Like Jesus, but not the Church.
- Dr. Joel Lehenbauer of the LCMS Commission on Theology and Church Relations staff, who will “provide practical theological application of Kimball’s work to the specific LCMS setting,” according to a symposium news release.
The conference begins with lunch on Jan. 4. Also scheduled for that morning is a practicum for conference registrants led by Dr. Jim McConnell, who is based at Concordia University Texas, in Austin.
“The YM Symposium Series is designed for people who are serious about youth and young adult ministry,” said Dr. Terry T. Dittmer, director of LCMS Youth Ministry, who added that the 2008 topic “will challenge participants to do ministry in a post-modern world.”
Dittmer also said that the annual symposium setting “allows increased opportunities for learning, network building, refreshment, and worship.”
A registration fee of $200 per participant includes Friday and Saturday’s lunches and Sunday breakfast. A conference lodging rate of $85 per night is available from the Houston J.W. Marriott hotel, site of the symposium.
