Canada seminary president resigns

Dr. Harald Tomesch, president of Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary in St. Catharines, Ontario, resigned from the post Feb. 5.

Tomesch had served as president of the Lutheran Church–Canada’s eastern seminary since Sept. 1, 2005.  Prior to that, he served eight years on the faculty at Concordia University Wisconsin, Mequon, teaching Greek and New Testament courses.  He earned his doctorate in New Testament studies at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, in 1996.

In his letter to the school’s board of regents, which was read during a morning chapel service, Tomesch said he felt his ministry at the seminary was completed and that he wanted to return to teaching.

Rev. Robert Krestick, chairman of the board of regents, received the news while attending a meeting in Australia.

“We are grateful for Dr. Tomesch’s service to the seminary,” Krestick said.  “He brought a spirit of innovation with his leadership, and we pray God’s continued blessing on his ministry.”

The seminary’s board of regents has not yet announced who will serve as interim president or the framework for beginning the search for a new president.
