Seminary chorus plans Advent Tour

The Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Chorus is planning five performances in December during this year’s Advent Tour.

All of the presentations will include an expanded choral version of “Evening Prayer” that encourages the participation of the host congregation in hymns and psalms.

Performances are scheduled for:

  • Sunday, Dec. 7, at 3 p.m. at the seminary’s Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus.
  • Friday, Dec. 12, 7 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Concordia, Mo.
  • Saturday, Dec. 13, 7 p.m., at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Kansas City, Mo.
  • Sunday, Dec. 14, 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 11 a.m., at Hope Lutheran Church, Shawnee, Kan.
  • Sunday, Dec. 14, 5 p.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, Moberly, Mo.
  • The Concordia Seminary Chorus, which includes the Advent Tour group, is composed of about 60 seminarians who commit to balancing full course loads with weekly rehearsals and special tour rehearsals.

Conducted by Rev. Henry Gerike, the chorus has produced 10 recordings, including its latest, “Safe in God’s Faithfulness,” which includes two newly commissioned pieces for male voices and viola: John Eggert’s setting of “No Saint on Earth Lives Life to Self Alone” and Jonathan Korh’s setting of “Shine in Our Hearts.”
