Women’s Institute sponsors leadership conference

The Women’s Leadership Institute (WLI) at Concordia University Wisconsin, Mequon, is sponsoring its second national conference for women April 4-6 at the Best Western Milwaukee Airport Hotel and Conference Center.

Under the theme, “Sharing the Love of Jesus: How-to’s of Christian Leadership,” the conference will offer more than a dozen presentations, devotions, a “young women’s panel,” music, and drama.

Like the WLI, the conference is designed to “educate, encourage, and equip” women to use their gifts of servant leadership in the church, home, and community.

Since its founding in January 2003, the WLI has sponsored about a dozen educational events on the Concordia, Mequon, campus; luncheon/speaker events in Florida, Colorado, and Nebraska; and a national conference.  And WLI Director Mary Hilgendorf has spoken at dozens of retreats, conferences, and meetings synodwide.

The upcoming WLI conference “is for all women,” Hilgendorf told Reporter.  “Our goal is to offer practical tips, encouragement, and support for women to share the love of Jesus within their circles of influence.”

Keynote speaker at this year’s conference will be Dr. Paul Maier, professor of ancient history at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo; LCMS second vice president; and noted author.

Other plenary speakers and their topics will be:

  • Dr. Gloria Edwards, a member of the LCMS Board of Directors and former president of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, “Principles of Leadership.”
  • Karen Lippert, director of women’s ministries at Divine Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hartland, Wis., “How to Recognize your Gifts.”
  • Linda Reiser, a member of the LCMS Board for Mission Services and former president of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, “Programming Ideas that Work.”

Sectionals also will be offered on how to make a speech, conduct a meeting, plan an event, write a devotion, lead Bible studies, become better organized, deal with conflict, recruit and retain volunteers, and “take care of me.”

Registration by March 3 is $135, or $155 after that date, and includes most meals.
