“Mankind’s Origin: Monkey or Messiah (Implications for Christian Witness in the 21st Century)” is the topic of Concordia Seminary’s fall Lay Bible Institute.
Designed for laypeople, the institute is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. on four consecutive Wednesdays in October: 7, 14, 21, and 28, on the seminary’s campus in St. Louis.
Presenter will be Concordia faculty member Dr. Robert Weise, professor of practical theology and The Lutheran Foundation of St. Louis Chair in Pastoral Ministry and the Life Sciences.
This year marks the 150th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s The Origin of the Species and the 200th anniversary of Darwin’s birth.
In his presentation, Weise will explore Darwinism and its relationship to today’s biomedical research, as well as its implications for the biblical foundation of creation, family, procreation, and the stewardship of the universe. Weise will discuss these issues as they relate to Christians living the life of Christ in this world.
He also will address the political issues related to the emphasis of Darwinian evolution in schools, and will lead discussions on other theories on the origin of mankind such as Panspermia and Theistic Evolution.
