“Crossing Over” is the theme for Lutheran Education Association’s (LEA) next triennial convocation, set for March 24-26, 2011, at the D
Physically, the convocation theme relates to the many bridges that span the Ohio River at Cincinnati.
It “is based on a variety of Bible passages that emphasize Jesus Christ as a bridge between sinners and eternal life with the Triune God in heaven … [and] also supports the constant crossing over by educators in Lutheran ministries to all facets of educational endeavors and pedagogy,” according to a statement on the LEA Web site announcing the theme selected by the convocation steering committee.
“Crossing Over” also was the theme of the 2006 LCMS Black Ministry Family Convocation and Educators in Black Ministry Conference in Selma, Ala. It “was borrowed with blessings” from planners of those events for the LEA convocation, the statement continues.
The theme logo — designed by Kathryn Brewer, art director for LEA’s Shaping the Future magazine — features a distinctive red cross with bridge-like cross beams and its shadow.
Registration for the convocation is scheduled to open in August 2010, when lodging reservations also may be made at a special LEA rate of $109 per room, per night, at the Millennium Hotel across from the Duke Energy Center.

Although open to anyone, LEA convocations historically draw Lutheran educators. Some 3,600 participants attended the 2008 LEA Convocation in Minneapolis.
LEA — a Synod Recognized Service Organization with some 3,100 educator-members — is based in River Forest, Ill.
