The International Center (IC) of The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod (LCMS) seeks to fill the position of executive director of Human Resources (HR).  This position provides strategic HR leadership at the LCMS IC.  Organizations supported include the LCMS Foundation, The Lutheran Church Extension Fund, Concordia Plan Services and the national office of The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod.  This position is responsible for attracting high quality employees and for creating an environment that is caring and supportive of their needs so that they may give their most effective service to the Lord and to the Synod.

This position provides leadership and management to the organization in the areas of recruitment, employment, new hire orientation, testing and assessment, EEO administration, HR policies and procedures, employment law, compensation administration, HR reporting and record-keeping, training and development, benefits administration, and other HR services, as necessary.  Special attention is given to training, coaching, and consultation with supervisors and management who are primarily responsible for creating and maintaining a caring environment.  This position coordinates the development and administration of human resources policies, procedures, and supporting systems within and between all boards, commissions, departments, and agencies of the Synod housed at the International Center.  All duties and responsibilities are performed personally or through the HR staff.

Position requirements:

  • bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or a related field.
  • master’s degree in human resources, an MBA, or a JD is preferred.
  • minimum of seven years progressive HR service, including executive level HR management experience in a small- to medium-sized corporation.
  • track record of success in recruiting and employment, compensation administration, performance management, and training and development.
  • strong knowledge of current employment laws and regulations.
  • must have strong interpersonal and communication skills along with the ability to respond to all levels of management within the organization.
  • demonstrated skills in interviewing, counseling, and assisting management and employees.
  • membership in an LCMS congregation is desirable but not required.
