Seminaries offer summer programs for youth

The Synod’s two seminaries are sponsoring events this summer for high-school students.

Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, is accepting nominations for high school men and women to attend its June 27-July 2 11th annual Vocatio (formerly called “Exploring Church Careers Event”).

Vocatio is designed to provide opportunities for high-school youth entering the ninth through 12th grades to participate in Bible study, worship, prayer and discussion, and to visit with those currently serving in church work vocations.

Activities will focus on the Bible verse, “I no longer live, but Christ lives in me” (Gal. 2:20).  The youth will explore this theme through exegetical, systematic, historical, and practical studies led by seminary professors.  Students will visit the Saxon Lutheran Memorial, where they will take part in a servant event.  Other activities include visiting other St. Louis attractions.

The only cost to students is the $50 registration fee, in additional to travel costs for which scholarships are available.  Registration is limited to 80.  For more information or to request a registration form, contact the Admissions Office, Concordia Seminary, 801 Seminary Place, St. Louis, MO, 63105, e-mail admissions@csl.edu, or call 800-922-9545.

Registration is open for the 11th annual Christ Academy June 14-27 hosted by Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne

Designed for high-school young men who are considering becoming pastors, the two-week academy enables youth to experience seminary life by living on campus, attending worship and classes, and finding time for fellowship.

This year Christ Academy will include an apologetics component, including a day trip to the Creation Museum outside of Cincinnati.  Using the topic of creation vs. evolution, the youth will learn the fundamentals of apologetics (defending the Christian faith) and be equipped to respond to various objections to Christianity, including evolution.

The all-inclusive tuition for Christ Academy is $500 and includes on-campus housing and meals, a Christ Academy polo and T-shirt, as well as tickets and transportation to events during the Academy.  Limited financial aid is available at the recommendation of the student’s pastor.

Applications are available at www.ctsfw.edu/christacademy, by e-mail at christacademy@ctsfw.edu, or by calling 800-481-2155.
