This summer Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, is offering a new workshop for church musicians, in addition to its regular workshop for organists.
The new workshop, “Church Music Week,” will be held June 22-26 on the seminary campus. It is designed for organists, as well as choir and handbell directors. Active handbell ringers also are encouraged to attend.
Instructors include Kantors Rev. Richard C. Resch and Kevin J. Hildebrand, and Dr. Paul J. Grime, dean of the chapel. All are members of the seminary staff. Also leading the workshop will be Charles P. Brown, professor of music and director of choral activities at Concordia University Chicago, and Janet J. Muth, cantor and choir director at Memorial Lutheran Church and School, Houston.
The annual “Organist Primer” will be held June 15-19 on campus. It is designed as a beginner workshop for organists who do not use pedals, who use only one foot, or who want to learn more about the basics of service playing. New organists who have been “drafted” into helping at their parish also are welcome to attend.
The workshop will include instruction about how the organ works and how to choose appropriate registrations. Participants should have proficient keyboard skills.
Hildebrand will demonstrate easy service music for Lutheran organists, and Resch will lead a daily study of Lutheran theology.
Tuition for each of the workshops is $205, and on-campus lodging, with meals, is available for $175. A non-refundable deposit of $25 is required on all registrations.
