Concordia, Mequon, offers nursing conference

Concordia University Wisconsin, Mequon, Wis., is offering this fall a professional development conference for registered nurses, clergy and others interested in parish nursing and congregational health.

“Christian Caregiving: The Concept and Practice of Parish Nursing and Congregational Health” will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on six consecutive Tuesdays — Sept. 7, 14, 21 and 28, and Oct. 5 and 12.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Christian caregiving in the context of congregational health.
  • history and philosophy of parish nursing: Jesus’ caregiving, early church caregiving.
  • roles and models of parish nursing.
  • legal and ethical aspects of parish nursing and congregational health.
  • spiritual assessment, caregiving and effective resources for spiritual care.
  • needs assessment, documentation and scope of practice.
  • serving people in crisis: grief, loss, depression, elderly, acute and chronic illnesses.
  • setting up a parish nurse practice and office.
  • team ministry of congregational health.
  • budgeting.
  • exercise ministries.
  • blood pressure ministries.

Registration for on-site participation is $560 (meals are not included).  The course also may be taken via “E-learning” for $710.
