Using a historic gavel bearing the images of the first Missouri Synod President, Dr. C.F.W. Walther, and Reformer Dr. Martin Luther, current LCMS President Dr. Gerald B. Kieschnick opened the 64th Regular Convention of The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod on Sunday, July 11, in Houston.
For the next six-and-a-half days, some 1,200 clergy and lay voting delegates listened to the presentation of 88 resolutions and, in the end, adopted a total of 85, declining three.
Delegates also elected 94 ordained ministers, commissioned ministers and laypersons to offices, boards and commissions of the organizations and structure that comprise the 163-year-old church body.
