Position: executive director, Campus Ministries

Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Ind., invites nominations and applications for the position of executive director of Campus Ministries.

The executive director of Valparaiso University Campus Ministries is responsible for the management and direction of the various campus ministries of the university, building and strengthening relationships within the Lutheran community and among other church bodies, and working closely with campus ministries that relate to the university to enhance cooperation, coordination, and outreach to the campus community.  

The executive director will direct and supervise campus ministries primarily through the management and coordination of three units:  The Chapel of the Resurrection, a newly constituted Institute for Leadership and Service (including curricular and extra curricular activities), and the Center for Church Relations. The executive director will report to the provost and executive vice president for Academic Affairs.

Primary Responsibilities

The executive director will provide the leadership on behalf of Valparaiso University campus ministries in all of the following areas:

– Budget management
– Personnel recruitment, selection, supervision and evaluation
– Strategic planning
– Operations management
– Organizational structure and function
– Program initiation and assessment
– Building and strengthening good relationships within the Lutheran community and with other church bodies

Qualifications

Candidates must be active Lutherans and should possess at least a Master of Divinity, Master of Theological Studies, Master of Arts in Religion, or equivalent degree, as well as several years experience in ministries that involve the management of complex organizations.  Ordination is not required, but it is preferred. 

Deadline for applications is Nov. 1, 2010.  The executive director will assume leadership as soon as possible in 2011.
