Seminaries offer summer workshops for clergy, laity

Registration is open for a number of off-campus continuing-education workshops both Synod seminaries are offering around the country this summer.

The cost for each of the 15 Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, workshops is $125 (with the exception of the three Hispanic workshops, which cost $75 each).  Taught by faculty from the seminary, the workshops are open to professional church workers, laypeople, and students.

The dates, locations, and topics of the St. Louis seminary workshops are:

  • June 10-12, San Jose, Calif. — “Cristo, redentor de la familia: Ministrando a la familia hispana/latina en el contexto norteamericano” (Christ, Redeemer of the Family:  Ministering to the Hispanic/Latino in a North American Context), Spanish only.
  • June 21-23, Dearborn, Mich. — “Isaiah, the Fifth Gospel.”
  • June 21-23, St. Louis — “Cristo, redentor de la familia:  Ministrando a la familia hispana/latina en el contexto norteamericano” (Spanish only).
  • June 25-26, Tampa, Fla. — “Cristo, redentor del matrimonio:  Herramientas para la consejeria pre-matrimonial y matrimonial” (Christ, Redeemer of Marriage: Tools for Premarital and Marital Counseling), Spanish only.
  • July 12-14, Cedar Crest, N.M. — “Pastoral and Professional Decision Making: Can We Think Gracefully?”
  • July 26-28, Phoenix – “Two Kinds of Righteousness: A Better Paradigm than Law and Gospel.”
  • Aug. 2-4, Cary, N.C. — “Practicing Ambidexterity.”
  • Aug. 2-4, Cleveland — “Exploring Exodus: The Origins of Biblical Israel.”
  • Aug. 2-4, St. Louis — “The Johannine Epistles and the Apostle of Love.”
  • Aug. 2-4, Austin, Minn. — “The Practice of Preaching.”
  • Aug. 9-11, Atwood, Kan. — “Together with All Creatures: Caring for God’s Living Earth.”
  • Aug. 9-11, St. Louis — “Faith and Creative Writing.”
  • Aug. 9-11, Seymour, Ind. — “The Church in the New Testament.”
  • Aug. 9-11, West Des Moines, Iowa — “Help for Mid-Size Congregations.”
  • Aug. 9-11, West Fargo, N.D. — “Exploring Exodus: The Origins of Biblical Israel.”
  • Aug. 16-18, Alexandria, Minn. — “In the Shadow of the Cross: Jesus and the Disciples in Matthew 16-20.”

Tuition costs for the 14 remaining workshops offered by Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, vary between $100 for a three-day course and $225 for four- and five-day courses.  Vicars and students from LCMS colleges and seminaries may attend free of charge.
