World Mission announces 'Ablaze!' awards

LCMS World Mission has announced this year’s recipients of the seventh annual Ablaze! Awards:

  • The LCMS Texas District and its president, Rev. Ken Hennings, received the 2010 Executive Director’s Ablaze! Award “for exemplifying a heart for sharing the Gospel with unreached or uncommitted people through active involvement with the Ablaze! movement.”  LCMS World Mission gave thanks for the district’s “leadership toward a contextualized church planting strategy and emphasis.”
  • Rev. Gregory S. Walton, president of the LCMS Florida-Georgia District, and Rev. Douglas Kallesen, the district’s executive director of Missions and Outreach, received the 2010 LCMS World Mission Ablaze! Vision Award “for working in collaboration with LCMS World Mission and exemplifying a vision for creatively identifying lost people and reaching them with the Gospel.” LCMS World Mission took note of the district’s work with ministries such as The 72 — Partners on the Road and the Transforming Congregations Network, and for Kallesen’s leadership on the Synod’s Outreach Task Force.
  • Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, received the 2010 LCMS World Mission Ablaze! Partners Award “for demonstrating a heart for reaching the lost with the Gospel through its daily activities.”  LCMS World Mission thanked the seminary for its “partnership in programs and efforts such as the Specific Ministry Pastor Program, the Ethnic Immigrant Institute of Theology, the Church Planters Assessment Center, recruitment of students for church planting ministry and developing a curriculum for church planting.”
