As Lent begins, LCMS President Rev. Matthew C. Harrison invites the church to join him in praying “The Litany,” profound words long prayed by Christians in times of need.
“Lent is a time for serious repentance, a time to get on our knees,” Harrison says in a new video in which he explains how he uses a kneeler in his office and begins each morning at the LCMS International Center in St. Louis in prayer.
“This is a time of need, both for our Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod and for Christianity around the world,” he says.
“The Litany” can be found on Page 288 in the Lutheran Service Book.
Lent is a season of preparation for Holy Week and Easter. During Lent, the church’s worship assumes a more penitential character, as the faithful meditate on the suffering that Christ endured on their behalf and reflect upon their own Baptism and what it means to live as a child of God.
