Lutheran camp offers free personal retreats

Camp Lutherhaven, Albion, Ind., offers its facilities in northeastern Indiana free of charge Monday through Friday for anyone interested in taking a personal retreat.

The “Day Away” retreats can last a few hours or a few days, with “no strings attached.”  Meals are not provided, but a kitchen is available for use.

Lutherhaven provides a “Welcome Packet” of resources, reflection tools and devotional material.  And guests are invited to hike, kayak and relax on the camp’s 72 acres of rolling hills surrounding Lake Muncie.

“As Christians, we know how to run hard,” says Brenda Jank, director of Rest and Renewal Ministries at the camp.  “We don’t know how to rest well, yet rest is near and dear to the heart of God.”

Jank encourages Lutherans to schedule a personal retreat “where a space on the calendar is reserved for God, where the pace is unhurried, and the place is quiet and free of demands and distractions.”

Personal retreats, she adds, can help “rejuvenate weary souls and revive passion for ministry and life.”

To set up a free personal retreat, contact Camp Lutherhaven at 260-636-7101 or visit its website at www.lutherhaven.org.

Camp Lutherhaven is one of 24 LCMS-related camps and retreat centers that are in partnership with the National Lutheran Outdoor Ministry Association (NLOMA). To check out other NLOMA camps, visit www.nloma.org.
