Concordia Plan Services (CPS), the benefits administrator for The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod (LCMS), seeks a candidate with a proven track record for the position of vice-president and chief marketing officer (CMO). CPS provides a full range of competitive employee benefits and services as the provider of choice to serve more than 6,000 Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod (www.lcms.org) congregations and organizations with retirement, disability and survivor and health benefits. With more than 32,000 active workers and 58,000 dependents as well as 14,200 retirees receiving pension benefits, CPS has nearly $3 billion under management.

The critical leadership responsibilities of this role include executive oversight of all marketing, product development and communication-related activities to ensure that the offering of CPS benefits and services is meeting and/or exceeding the expectations of the LCMS target audience. Through solid market research and segmentation, products development and ongoing communication and education of the LCMS stakeholders, this executive will ensure that solid relationships are built and enhanced throughout the constituency.

A key executive in the CPS organization, the successful candidate will be a leading participant in the strategic direction and management of the organization, with the primary responsibility for product and service offerings. The CMO also will advise the chief executive officer and his management team on these issues and work seamlessly to ensure all aspects of these products and services are managed effectively and efficiently.

The successful candidate will preferably be an active member of an LCMS congregation and must have strong leadership qualities and an unquestioned moral compass which will be evidenced by their personal and professional track record. An understanding of the Synod structure or similar not-for-profit organization will be critical to the success of this role.

Other experience and qualities include 10 or more years of management experience in marketing of a similar magnitude and scope in an insurance company or some type of benefits consulting or delivery firm; confident in market development and research for business-to-business product and service endeavors; known as a strategic analyst of the competitive landscape with deeply rooted understanding of employee benefit trends; proactive leader with strong managerial and people development skills; able to convert vision into sound service alternatives; experienced in feasibility analysis and vendor management; ability to deliver quality education for workers and employers on all aspects of benefits; outstanding oral and written communication skills and project management; collaborative and a team player; proven integrity, discretion and judgment in confidential matters; and highly organized, able to work under pressure with time limitations.
