Four career missionaries deployed

Four career missionaries were deployed overseas in January to begin their ministries:

  • Anthony DiLiberto, of Diamond Bar, Calif., who is serving in Peru;
  • the Rev. Dr. Carl and Deaconess Deborah Rockrohr, of Ann Arbor, Mich., in South Africa; and
  • the Rev. Tony Booker, of Fort Wayne, Ind., in the Czech Republic.

DiLiberto, a director of Christian education, is serving as the Peru mission team’s mercy outreach specialist. His responsibilities include identifying and developing ways for new members of the emerging Peruvian Lutheran church body to reach out with the love of Christ to their neighbors in both Word and deed. He also will assist the LCMS church-planting ministry team in Peru.

DiLiberto first served in Peru from 2008 to 2010, coordinating short-term mission teams and service projects.

The Rockrohrs are serving at Lutheran Theological Seminary in Pretoria, South Africa. Carl Rockrohr will teach and assist the rector with administrative tasks. He also will assist the bishop of the Lutheran Church of Southern Africa (LCSA), an LCMS partner church.

Deborah Rockrohr, director of the seminary’s new residential deaconess training program, will develop the program and teach diaconal classes. The Rockrohrs have a son, Ted, who is with them in South Africa.

Serving as pastor to a small congregation of English-speaking expatriates in Prague, Czech Republic, Booker also will help build closer relationships between local congregations there and the LCMS in order to foster cooperative mission and ministry work.

He also will coordinate cultural exchange events with members and institutions of the surrounding community, develop a deeper relationship with a Lutheran Czech day school and serve as the LCMS supervisor for local short-term mission teams and projects. Booker’s wife, Connie, is with him in Prague.
