Registration open for youth-workers conference

Registration is open for LCMS Youth Ministry’s National Lutheran Youth Workers Conference (also known as “NATIONAL”) — set for July 12-15 at the Westin Riverwalk Hotel in San Antonio.

NATIONAL provides leadership training for volunteer and professional youth workers in Synod congregations in years when there is no National LCMS Youth Gathering. Congregations are encouraged to consider sending senior-high youth who are leaders in their congregations to participate in the event, along with their youth leaders.

Under the theme “Remember,” this year’s conference offers workshops, keynote presentations, Bible studies and a preview of the 12th triennial National LCMS Youth Gathering to be held July 1-5, 2013, in San Antonio.

Scheduled as keynote speaker for this NATIONAL conference is Dr. Kurt Senske, chief executive officer of Lutheran Social Services of the South and chair of the Board of Directors of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Brad Alles, religion teacher at Milwaukee Lutheran High School, will lead the “youth leader training module.”

“NATIONAL is a great event, especially this year, as it gives participants the opportunity to become acquainted with the 2013 Youth Gathering city,” said the Rev. Dr. Terry Dittmer, director of LCMS Youth Ministry. “There are also great opportunities for spiritual nurture and worship. And to network with fellow youth workers, both lay and professional, is an amazing benefit.  For people who care about youth, NATIONAL is a tremendous opportunity to hone their skills and interests.”

Registration for NATIONAL is $295 per person until May 1 and $325 after that date, and may be completed online at the conference website, www.nlywc.com.  The special conference rate for lodging at the Westin is $125 per night.
