TV station tells story of Concordia, Portland, collaboration with grade school

A story by NBC-affiliate KGW-TV Channel 8 in Portland, Ore. — airing several times over the Nov. 17-18 weekend — highlights the five-year relationship between Concordia University, Portland, and neighboring Faubion Elementary School.

Since Concordia University students and faculty began volunteering at Faubion, problems on the elementary school’s playground are down 80 percent and enrollment is up by 70 children, according to the KGW-TV story.

And the Concordia students who serve at Faubion seem to enjoy it, with two describing their time there as “so fun” and as an “all-around good experience.”

“Teachers from both schools think their collaboration could — and should — be copied at other schools around the city,” according to the TV station’s report.
