Concordia Theological Seminary will present its annual symposia on exegetical and confessional theology Jan. 22-25 on its campus in Fort Wayne, Ind., and in a live webcast.
A Lenten preaching workshop, led by the Rev. Dr. Naomichi Masaki, will precede the symposia on Jan. 21 (click here for a related story).
The theme for the 28th annual Exegetical Theology Symposium, Jan. 22-23, is “Love and Marriage: Does the Bible Still Mean What It Says?”
Presenters and their topics include Concordia Theological Seminary faculty:
- the Rev. Dr. Charles Gieschen, “The Value of Children According to the Gospels.”
- the Rev. Dr. Arthur Just Jr., “Galatians 3:28: Unity in Christ’s New Creation Family.”
- the Rev. Dr. John Nordling, “Does Ephesians 5:21 Support Mutual Submission?”
- Prof. Rev. Jeffrey Pulse, “The Relationship Between God and Man: A Divine Object Lesson.”
- the Rev. Dr. Dean Wenthe, “Theology of the Body in the Old Testament.”
Also presenting will be the Rev. Dr. Robert Gagnon of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, who will address “Why Attempts to Make the Bible Supportive of Homosexual Practice Don’t Work: A Look at Recent Scholarship.”
The 36th annual Symposium on the Lutheran Confessions, Jan. 23-25, will discuss “Morality and Ethics in the Church and in the Public Square: The Lutheran Challenge.”

Presenting the keynote at the Jan. 24 banquet will be Dr. Jean Garton, first president of Lutherans For Life and author of Who Broke the Baby.
Also at the symposia — beginning at noon on Jan. 23 — Concordia Publishing House will host a book-signing event featuring eight CPH authors and their books: Prof. Rev. John Pless, Women Pastors?; Deaconess Carolyn Brinkley, Bearing the Cross; the Rev. Jonathan Fisk, Broken; the Rev. Ken Wieting, Lutheranism 101: The Lord’s Supper; Katie Schuermann, Pew Sisters; the Rev. Ben Mayes, Gerhard; the Rev. Dr. David Scaer, Infant Baptism; and Prof. Rev. Jeffrey Pulse, Year in the Old Testament.
Registration is $150 for the entire symposia, $80 for the exegetical symposium only and $120 for the confessions symposium only. Also available is a one-day registration for $60. Tickets to the banquet are $40 each. Registration for the Livestream video option is $75.
