The Rev. Terry Cripe of Defiance, Ohio, was elected on the second ballot to his fourth term as district president during the LCMS 21st convention of the LCMS Ohio District, held June 25-27 on the campus of Concordia University, Ann Arbor, Mich.
Also elected were:
- Rev. Michael Saylor, pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Convoy, Ohio, to his first term as first vice-president (Northwest Region).
- Rev. Dr. John Davidson, pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lancaster, Ohio, to his first term as second vice-president (Southeast Region).
- Rev. Ronald Young, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Westlake, Ohio, to his second term as third vice-president (North Central Region).
- Rev. Andrew Norris, pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, Cincinnati, to his first term as fourth vice-president (Southwest Region).
- Rev. Donald Beaumont, pastor of Bethel Lutheran Church, Willowick, Ohio, to his first term as fifth vice-president (Northeast Region).
Cripe and the vice-presidents were installed during the convention.
Under the theme “A Time to Plant,” based on Eccl. 3:2, delegates adopted resolutions to:
- “support [LCMS] President [Rev. Dr. Matthew C.] Harrison in making sure that doctrinal fidelity is promoted and maintained in the Synod for the sake of our public confession.”
- “memorialize the 2016 convention of the LCMS to amend the Bylaws in order to provide a procedure that would allow a congregation who had no pastoral delegate at their district convention to designate their pastor as a voter and participate fully in the election of the president of the Synod on behalf of said congregation.”
On June 26 — the day the U.S. Supreme Court announced its decision to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide — the LCMS Ohio District also adopted a motion to affirm marriage as the lifelong union of one man and one woman joined together by God.
