Admitting to struggles and weaknesses, recently re-elected President Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison expressed his gratitude to the 66th Regular Convention of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod on two counts.

First, he recognized the sacrifices of his family, and thanked his wife, Kathy, and sons, Matthew and Mark, for their patience at his frequent absences and preoccupation with the work of the Church.

“What a joy, a blessing, my family is to me, as yours is to you,” he said.

Secondly, as Harrison has traveled around the Church, he commented that it has been wonderful to hear, “I’m praying for you.”

For the prayers of thousands of people in the Synod, both pastors and congregations, he is deeply grateful.

“That’s got to be the deepest honor ever received,” he added.

Harrison pledged his ongoing efforts in his service as president.

“We’ll continue to work on behalf of the Church and do the best we can for her,” Harrison said. “God grant it for Jesus’ sake.”
