Concordia Seminary, St. Louis (CSL), seeks nominations for a faculty position in the area of homiletics. The successful candidate should have a demonstrated aptitude for preaching in the congregational setting, experience teaching homiletics, and publications related to the art of preaching. He should have a terminal degree in homiletics or in a field that promises a beneficial interdisciplinary approach to homiletical studies and that contributes to another area in the seminary curriculum. He should have a good working knowledge of the biblical languages.
The candidate must be an ordained pastor in the LCMS or a partner church body of the LCMS and must have served in a congregational setting for at least five years. He should demonstrate a strong commitment to the Scriptures as the inspired, written Word of God and to the Lutheran Confessions as a correct exposition of the Scriptures. He will be solid in his Lutheran understanding of preaching, conversant with the intersection of theology and culture, and competent in at least one significant area from the history of the church’s preaching.
Responsibilities include teaching courses in homiletics, both online and residentially; teaching and advising graduate students in the homiletics emphasis of both the Ph.D. and the D.Min. programs; and contributing to the ongoing conversation of homiletics in the Lutheran tradition. Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
