The Rev. James Maxwell of Colorado Springs, Colo., was elected to his first term as president of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Rocky Mountain District (RMD) during the district’s 52nd convention, held June 9–10 in Lone Tree, Colo.
Maxwell previously served at Rock of Ages Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs. He replaces the Rev. Roger Schlechte, who announced his retirement as district president after serving the last four years.
Also elected were:
- Rev. Jared Melius of Broomfield, Colo., as first vice-president;
- Rev. Mark Nierman of Loveland, Colo., as second vice-president;
- Rev. Jason Rust of Ruidoso, N.M., as third vice-president; and
- Rev. Michael Redeker of Fruita, Colo., as fourth vice-president.
The officers were installed during the convention.
Meeting under the theme “Know the Truth, Understand the Culture, Live the Faith,” delegates adopted resolutions to:
- Make the Siberian Lutheran Seminary an international mission project of the RMD for the 2022–2023 triennium, and set a goal of raising at least $150,000 to support their work;
- Affirm and support outreach to people with disabilities;
- Reaffirm the biblical doctrine of creation and the young age of the earth; and
- Reaffirm the proper use and consecration of the Lord’s Supper.
