The English District of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) met for its 58th regular convention June 26–28 at the Ann Arbor, Mich., campus of Concordia University Wisconsin and Ann Arbor. Meeting under the theme “Living our Baptized Life in Christ,” drawn from Galatians 2:20, delegates elected the Rev. Jeffrey Miskus, Mississauga, Ontario, to his first full term as district president. Miskus had previously filled the vacancy when the former district president, the Rev. Dr. Jamison Hardy, accepted the call in 2024 to become president of the Concordia University System (CUS).
Also elected were:
- Rev. Dr. Michael Morehouse, Tucson, Ariz., Western Region, re-elected to a second term as first vice-president;
- Rev. Robert J. Kieselowsky Jr., Philadelphia, Eastern Region, elected to a first term as second vice-president after previously serving as fourth vice-president by appointment;
- Rev. Zachary W. Marklevitz, Wayland, Mich., Lake Erie Region, elected to a first term as third vice-president after previously serving a term by appointment; and
- Rev. Anthony J. Oliphant, Elmhurst, Ill., Midwest Region, elected to a first term as fourth vice-president.
All elected officers were installed during the convention.
Delegates adopted resolutions:
- To request the LCMS Commission on Theology and Church Relations to produce a new document on race, updating its 1994 document to address modern racial ideologies and distortions to address how to minister to those harmed by racial hatred or confused by contemporary racial ideologies;
- To state religious objection and be ready to support, come to the aid and speak in defense of parents within congregations of the English District in matters of governmental interference with parents’ duties by providing pastoral care, connecting them with legal or education resources, and advocating publicly and lawfully on their behalf; and
- To memorialize the LCMS to encourage congregations to include support for a regional university of the CUS in their annual mission budgets.
The Rev. Anthony Oliphant is pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elmhurst, Ill.
