Giving thanks for our DCEs

Youth and education leaders take part in a breakout activity during a training event at the LCMS International Center in 2025. In June, the Synod observes DCE appreciation. (LCMS/Erik M. Lunsford)

Congregations and schools of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) are invited to celebrate and give thanks for directors of Christian education (DCEs) on June 26. Commissioned DCEs are one of the seven auxiliary offices that support the work of the Holy Ministry. They serve as lifespan (“cradle to grave”) Christian educators, typically within congregations and their ministries. Through their leadership and service, DCEs assist and support pastors as they teach the faith to children, youth and adults.

On June 26 or anytime, consider letting the DCEs in your congregation — and any others who support the teaching of the faith in your midst — know how much you value their contribution. Pray for them, share a word or written note of appreciation, bake their favorite treat, or post a social media shareable that highlights their service.
