May ‘Witness’: All about convention

The May issue of The Lutheran Witness (LW) gives a sneak peek of the business that will be conducted and the major discussions that will occur at The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) convention this July in Phoenix.

This issue also seeks to inform the Synod as it prepares for its largest election — the election of LCMS president — in June. The issue includes biographical information, personal statements and a robust Q&A with the five presidential candidates.

At the convention, delegates will discuss and vote on major issues — such as how and where the church should educate its pastors; how it should define “Lutheran identity”; how the church should respond to issues such as AI, racism, in vitro fertilization, cohabitation and more; how the LCMS should forge together as a church body in a time of declining membership; how it should exercise ecclesiastical supervision over clergy and handle disputes; and much more.

Pick up a copy of The Lutheran Witness for an overview of this summer’s “big topics,” and be sure to stay tuned to Reporter in July for live coverage of these discussions and decisions as they take place.
