ST. LOUIS — Delegates at the 62nd Convention of The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod today (July 12) voted to require rostered church workers who are employees of LCMS Recognized Service Organizations (RSOs) to be members of the “geographical district in which the member resides or the non-geographical district in which he or she holds membership.”
The change in Bylaw 2.41 originated with an opinion of the Commission on Constitutional Matters that was clarified by the Commission on Structure. It allows supervision by district presidents “who are most familiar with that person and their family, and their situation,” explained Dr. Warren Schumacher, who introduced the resolution as chairman of the convention floor committee on Structure, Planning and Administration.
The resolution (#7-06) was adopted by a vote of 1,121 to 64.
