Rev. Eugene L. Reddel, chief of chaplain service and clinical pastoral education supervisor for the Department of Veterans Affairs Pittsburgh Healthcare System, has received the VA’s “Secretary’s Award for Excellence in Chaplaincy.”
The award, the highest given to a VA chaplain, is presented by the secretary for Veterans Affairs to four VA chaplains each year — a supervisory chaplain, a full-time staff chaplain, a part-time staff chaplain and a fee-basis or contract chaplain. Reddel was recognized in the “supervisory chaplain” category and received the award Dec. 4 in Hampton, Va.
Reddel, who supervises 13 chaplains and 30 CPE students, was recognized for using “creative and innovative management to assure consistent high-quality pastoral care” and for his “many years of service [that] exemplify the highest ideals and traditions of the Department of Veterans Affairs Chaplain Service.” He has served as a full-time chaplain since 1974.
