“Love Was Born at Christmas” is the title of devotions available from Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM) for the 2006 Advent season.
This year, the devotions are no longer available as printed booklets. Instead, congregations are asked to download them from a Web site in a format that they can customize and copy to suit their outreach needs.
The new approach is viewed by LHM as a way to “more strongly promote local congregations than in past years” and better aligns with its “strategic outreach plan of partnering with local congregations,” according to a news release.
The 2006 devotions are designed to be used as an outreach tool for congregations, as well as for personal reflection.
They are available in two printable versions: daily devotions — from the beginning of Advent through Epiphany –or weekly installments. Each version provides space for congregations to display information such as church name, address, phone number, worship times, and special events.
The devotions will be available online in color or in black and white, as weekly bulletin inserts or handouts, and in regular or large-print formats. Congregations may print as many copies as they need, using a standard desktop printer.
The devotions also may be received via e-mail, and audio versions of each daily devotion will be available online beginning Dec. 3.
The Web site for downloading the devotions also includes a Spanish version, an explanation of Advent, and ideas for distributing the devotions in your local community.
