Thanks to an “overwhelmingly positive” response to Lutheran Service Book — and as “a service to the church” — Concordia Publishing House has announced that it will continue offering the pew edition of the hymnal at its special introductory price for another year.
The hymnal, released last fall, will continue to be available for $18.50 per copy, plus shipping, through Pentecost (May 11) 2008.
CPH has so far distributed more than 600,000 copies of the hymnal, and, “with orders continuing to pour in,” expects to have 900,000 total copies in print by the end of the summer, according to President/CEO Bruce Kintz.
“The response throughout The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod to Lutheran Service Book has been, simply put, overwhelmingly positive,” Kintz told Reporter.
“Enthusiastic reception of the hymnal has led to unexpected demand,” he said. “Print run after print run has been quickly exhausted, and the distribution center of Concordia Publishing House is working at capacity to fill orders as soon as the trucks roll in from the printer with more copies of the hymnal.”
Kintz said the Synod’s publishing house is “thankful to God” for the wide interest in the hymnal and, “as a service to the church” has decided to continue offering it at the special price.
The 1,024-page Lutheran Service Book: Pew Edition comes with a burgundy “leather-like” hardback cover. It includes five divine services, prayers for worship, family devotions, and 635 hymns, songs, and canticles.
