The LCMS Commission on Ministerial Growth and Support (CMGS) is finishing work on resources to help congregations and other church communities observe what it is suggesting as a first-time “Ministerial Wellness Week” in the Synod for May 16-22 with an “LCMS Health and Fitness Day” on Wednesday, May 19.
“The vitality of the pastors, teachers, and other called ministers of our church body has a direct and significant impact on the vibrancy and vitality of the congregations and other ministries in which they serve,” CMGS Executive Director Rev. David A Muench told Reporter.
Muench said that is why the commission developed plans for the emphasis and “is happy for the opportunity to highlight that connection and encourage new and strengthened commitments to attitudes and behaviors of wellness” throughout the Synod.
He said that the materials being prepared for congregations include ideas for specifically including wellness awareness in worship, lists of ways to manage caloric intake and increase daily levels of exercise, ideas for getting together with others who also are interested in wellness, and information about support resources available in their communities.
More information about the materials, including how to order them, will be included in the commission’s Reporter insert planned for April, Muench indicated.
