The Office of National Mission (ONM) is seeking nominations for the position of director of worship and IC chaplain. The director is accountable to the executive director of the ONM and reports to the Office of the LCMS President for matters pertaining to the chaplaincy; interfacing as appropriate with the LCMS Human Resources Department. The director administers the functions of worship in accordance with the Synod’s objectives and policies as set forth in the Synod Handbook; as IC chaplain oversees the worship life at the International Center, serving employees by scheduling and coordinating worship opportunities; providing support for requests of pastoral nature.
Nominees must be ordained ministers on roster of the Synod; an active, in good standing, members of LCMS congregations; and committed to the theology and confessional practice of the LCMS. Qualified candidates must possess an advanced degree in church music and/or theology, preferably a master’s degree or a terminal degree; significant experience in the area of church and/or worship leadership, including at least five years in a parish.
Additional qualifications sought are: significant knowledge and resourcefulness coupled with sound judgment in the fields of theology, liturgy, hymnody, church music and related arts; a strong background in music is preferred. Demonstrated strong pastoral care and care-of-souls skills are a must, as well as understanding of the needs, working conditions and opportunities of those serving at the International Center of the LCMS.
